KOSTROMA
Kostroma is an ancient Russian town situated on the bank
of the Volga River. The town was founded in 1153 by Prince Yuri
Dolgoruky, that is why Kostroma is called Moscow's "blood
sister". The city was one of the largest centres of Russian
trade and handicraft. The pearl of Kostroma is the Ipatiev Monastery
with the five-cupola Trinity Cathedral on its territory. There
are rare books kept in the monastery, among them the famous
Ipatiev Chronicle, an encyclopedia of Ancient Rus.
Tourists will also see BOGOYAVLENSKY MONASTERY, built in
the Russian classical stile.
