MOSCOW is the capital of the Russian Federation. It
was founded in 1147 by prince Yuri Dolgoruky. It has developed
from a small wooden fortress on the bank of the Moskva River
to become the capital of the first Russian centralized state.
At the end of the 18th century the capital was moved to St.
Petersburg, but in 1918 Moscow once again became the nation's
capital.
Now it is one of the largest cities in the world. It is the
political, cultural, economic and scientific centre of Russia,
the seat of the Russian Government, with major banks, foreign
embassies, cultural and educational institutions located in
this city.
There are 5 airports and 9 railway terminals in Moscow. The
city is famous for its places of interest, splendid architectural
and cultural monuments.
